Protective masks from a pair of hockey players went to waste

Posted on2 Years ago by

It was March 8, 2020, when Aleš Raus from Ružomberok was on the ice for the last time. It was the first playoff duel for bronze in the Czech Para Hockey League between Rausová SHK LAPP Zlín and Karlovy Vary. The home team lost 3:6, but they did not have time to recover. Four days later, the sports and technical commission ended the competition prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic. No champion was announced, nor were medals awarded.

The league did not end, it was also after the trainings and the national team program was also dropped. In the national team, Slovakia's preparation was aimed at the European Championships, which were to be held from April 15 to 25 in Östersund, Sweden, with the participation of the eight best teams," our sled hockey representative explained his sports injuries due to the corona virus.

The epidemic cut short his playing career, but the 37-year-old from Ružomberok did not remain idle at home. His sheltered workshop continued to "thrive". It's just branched out from its core production program, which focuses on wooden-brimmed hats and imaginative hoodies and T-shirts. "Orders for the original assortment fell significantly, interest was minimal, but we threw ourselves into sewing cloths. We made several thousand of them. We also managed to make an anti-corona cap that protects the eyes and face from the spread of various droplets, which I am really looking forward to. I was also at work sixteen hours a day. So I overcame a difficult period with work," continued the optimistic 37-year-old sledge hockey player.

Although the company completely pulled him into its fold for some time, Aleš did not resent the move. "During the week, my work made me extremely busy, but on the weekends I went cycling, went for walks and also exercised individually. The bicycle has become my great love, I want to enjoy it as much as possible in the summer." Last year, Aleš could afford to buy a top-quality "bike" also thanks to a 2,500-euro "injection" from the Supra Foundation.

Last year, in November, Raus was at the historic success of our hockey team. The Slovak "nároďák" finished in a sensational 2nd place at the B category world championships in Berlin, which meant promotion to the A category. "I should return to the ice at the turn of June and July, when the initial national training camp in Piešťany is scheduled. I hope that we will return to normal in sports as well. After all, a very important season awaits us again. With more challenges.'
